Android has been powering billions of smart phones and tablets and because they make life so delicious, all the versions of this operating systems are named after a dessert. Now if you are looking for an operating system that is a sweet new treat, then you are looking for the Android 4.4 KitKat. This android upgrade follows the 4.3 Jelly Bean version and was rumored to be coming out between late October or early November of 2013. The initial release date was 14th October but that turned out to be erroneous. But it has finally arrived and it might take a while before the Nexus 4, HTC One and other compatible device owners can get their hands onto this new OS. This new version will be free so it will not cost its users a dime to upgrade.

This new operating system has a number of upgrade from the precious 4.3 version. Some of these features include better customization for multiple users, an updated keyboard and better support for Bluetooth Smart technology. The Android KitKat has a launcher that can be used on either Samsung or HTC turning the interface into a vanilla Android replacing the Sense or TouchWiz. In a file leaked to myce, they referenced an apk with ‘angel’ which stands for Google Experience Launcher. The formatting fuelled a theory that the Google Experience Launcher will be available to download freely.

Educated guesses also speculate that the Android Kitkat will be easier for handset manufactures to assimilate into their road maps by offering better firmware compatibility which sadly means it will be difficult for upgrades on the older handsets. This compliments rumors that have been going around that the future android releases are likely to be less dramatic and will instead be producing Key OS applications and components then have them updated through Google Play Store.

Leaks about the Operating system show screenshots of the dialer and messaging dialer alongside settings of subsections for payment and printing. This may infer that the ability to pay stuff may be backed into the OS which will be very convenient. The animations are also likely to be smoother, and default apps preinstalled into the OS include Quick office, Keep and Drive. You can obviously download all this from the Google play store but it will definitely be nice to have them pre-installed.

It is also thought that the new operating system will have an increased array of themes in its icons. The notifications bar may also be skinnable to ensure it suits open applications. The Gmail app will also be upgraded albeit remotely especially in the conversation view style.

The aim of this new version operating system is to create a remarkable Android experience for all its users. The cross-promotional deal that Google made with Nestle did not see any money exchange but involved running a contest to win a Google play credit or a Nexus 7 in their specifically branded Kit Kat chocolate bars. This was a cross promotional agreement to promote each other’s wares.

Considering the Android 4.3 was released in the Nexus 7 2012, the Nexus 7, the Nexus 10, Samsung Galaxy Nexus and would soon be arriving on the Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One versions, we can expect the Android 4.4 will be coming out on some excellent devices. HTC have stated that they would push it out to developers before the end of September. We can definitely expect this delicious android OS to whet the appetite for the Android 5.0.
