Check the statistics

Before developing and submitting your app, find out are the apps you are competing with. You can check out the latest statistics to know which categories of apps earn the most revenue on the App Store, which are the top 100 apps in your competition, which apps are most popular with your target audience etc. This information is quite handy as it will help you develop an app which will not be lost in oblivion.

For instance, if you want to develop a racing game, check out the number of racing games already there on iTunes, the top racing games that earn the most and other such details. Use this information to create a totally different game, which will be lapped up by your target users. Or else, you might want to reconsider your strategy and not develop a racing game, but some other game depending on the statistics.

Market your app

Marketing and promoting an app is as important as the development of the app itself. Therefore, give your 100% for marketing and promoting your app. Remember, there is no fixed time as such for marketing your app and the earlier you start promoting it, the better it will be for the app.

You can adopt any marketing strategy you want. For instance, you can create a teaser about the app on your website landing page (if you have one), launch how to videos of the app on YouTube, create a page/profile of your app on social media sites, or create a whole new website just for the app. You can also create a blog for the app and giveaway freebies – mugs, t-shirts, CDs and other merchandise to promote the app amongst the target audience.

Submit your app for review

One of the most effective ways to draw the attention of your target audience is by submitting your app for review. The trick is to target only those sites, where your end-users are likely to come across the review of your app, know about it and in turn, download the app from iTunes. This has an additional advantage; you will get to know the users’ feedbacks about your app on the spot, sometimes even in real-time.

Create a free version of your app

Another sure-shot way to get your app noticed by your target users is to develop a free version or Lite version of your app. Release this free version of your app along with the paid or premium version on the App Store. When the users download and like the free version, most of them will definitely download the premium version of the app as well.

In conclusion

These are some of the ways you can generate awareness about your app amongst your target audience. Use them as an algorithm to avoid your app getting lost in a sea of apps on the iTunes Store.
